Answers to the most common questions about ordering from Diamond D Land & Cattle.
How do beef shares work?
You can order by the eighth, quarter, half, or whole. Each size gets you a proportional mix of cuts from one animal, priced per pound off that animal's hanging weight. Quarter, half, and whole shares are priced the same per pound; an eighth share is priced a bit higher per pound to account for the extra cutting and packaging a smaller share takes.
Can I choose my own cuts?
It depends on your share size. Half and whole share owners work directly with our butcher, who can walk you through your options for custom cuts. Eighth and quarter shares come with a standard, preselected cut order.
Do you use mRNA vaccinations or hormones?
No — we don't use mRNA vaccinations or hormones in our herd.
Is your beef grass fed, grass finished, or grain finished?
Our cattle are grass fed and grain finished for 100+ days to promote the best tenderness and flavor possible.
Do I pay everything up front, or in parts?
In two parts. A deposit is collected automatically when you place your order. Once the animal is processed and the hanging weight is known, we calculate your final balance and collect it separately.
What is a hanging weight, and why does it affect my final price?
Hanging weight is the animal's weight after processing, before it's cut and packaged — it's the standard way beef shares are priced, since the exact weight isn't known until the animal is actually processed. Your final balance is calculated from that number.
How long after processing until I get my beef?
Once your animal is processed, you'll receive an invoice for your final balance, and your beef is usually ready in a couple of weeks plus a few days. We'll notify you of a pickup or delivery date once it's ready, and your beef will be available on that date.
How do I pay?
You can pay online through the website, or in person with cash, check, credit card, or SNAP benefits — whichever works best for you.
Do you offer delivery, or is it pickup only?
Both. You can always pick up at the ranch, and we sometimes offer additional pickup locations that vary depending on availability. We also deliver for a fee within 100 miles of the ranch. You'll see the pickup and delivery options available for your order, along with any delivery fee, at checkout.
Can I order by text?
Yes — you can text your order in instead of using the website, if you'd rather.
How do I check on an existing order?
Use the "Look Up Your Order" link in the footer, or the confirmation link you were sent when you ordered.
